PalmaSencelles is preparing to experience a day full of memories, literature, and recognition. This Sunday, July 5, the City Council will hold the official tribute ceremony for the writer from Manacor, Maria-Antònia Oliver, after she was named Adoptive Daughter of Sencelles last March by unanimous agreement of the municipal plenary.

The event will take place in Biniali, the town where the author lived for more than thirty years and where she wrote a large part of a body of work that made her one of the great voices of contemporary Catalan literature. With this initiative, the municipality wishes to pay tribute to a figure closely linked to the Pla de Mallorca and the cultural fabric of the locality.

The commemoration will begin at 8:00 PM in Plaça Aina Moll, located behind the Biniali church, with the presentation of the booklet containing the technical report that underpinned her appointment as Adoptive Daughter. The conference will be given by Dr. Pilar Arnau i Segarra, doctor in Philology and Philosophy. Immediately after, actress Apol·lònia Serra Rigo will offer a recital with a selection of texts by Maria-Antònia Oliver herself.

At 9:00 PM, the events will move to Plaça Sant Cristòfol, where the commemorative plaque will be unveiled, permanently remembering the writer's connection with Biniali. The evening will feature musical accompaniment by Xeremiers d'Es Capoll Llarg and will culminate with the distribution of the commemorative booklet among attendees, as well as a refreshment.

This tribute represents the culmination of a commitment made by the council and public recognition of an author who, despite being born in Manacor, made Biniali her home from the mid-eighties. From there, she developed a large part of her literary career and turned her house into a space for creation and meeting for numerous figures of Catalan letters.

Four years after her death, Sencelles returns to Maria-Antònia Oliver a part of the affection she professed for the municipality. With this institutional and popular event, the town claims the human and literary legacy of an essential writer and reinforces its commitment to the preservation of the territory's cultural memory.
