Smoke and ash from the fire in France reach the Balearic Islands
The cloud coming from the south of the country can be seen mainly over Mallorca and Menorca
PalmSmoke and ash from the massive wildfire raging in southern France is reaching the Balearic Islands this Wednesday, mainly visible over Mallorca and Menorca. The Balearic State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) reported this in a message on the X network, using satellite images to show the dense cloud of smoke and ash.
According to Europa Press, the fire broke out on Tuesday at around 4:15 p.m. local time in the commune of Ribaute, and some 1,500 firefighters are responding to the still-unfavorable weather conditions.
Authorities in the Aude department in the south of the country reported Wednesday that at least one person has died and nine others have been injured in the blaze, which is spreading rapidly and has already affected more than 11,000 hectares.
