PalmThe Platform Against Megacruise Ships has warned that a technical report prepared by a security inspector at the port of Palma warns of the "risk" posed by docking and departure maneuvers by large cruise ships.

This was stated by the platform in a press release on Monday, in which it referred to this document, which recalls an incident that occurred in 2023 when a cruise ship, due to wind, broke its moorings and collided with an oil tanker. The report indicates that these types of incidents are not isolated and could be repeated, with serious consequences for the safety of the port and the coastal population, according to the platform.

The organization has indicated that this document confirms the need to implement a moratorium limiting the number of mega-cruise ships to a maximum of one per day. The objective, they added, is to rigorously evaluate all impacts and establish a cruise policy adapted to the characteristics of the port of Palma. The organization emphasized its advocacy for a model based on smaller, less polluting cruise ships with a cultural profile that encourages discovery and respect for the city.
