The agency that processed the visa for Matilde, the woman who disappeared in Indonesia, claims that she "did not leave the country."
Police have been investigating the disappearance of this woman, born in Ferrol and living in Mallorca, since last Wednesday.
PalmThe agency that helped process the Indonesian visa for Matilde Muñoz Cazorla (72 years old), who disappeared on the island of Lombok a month and a half ago, confirmed this Saturday that she "has not left" the country and that her residence permit in the archipelago "remains active."
"Information from Immigration indicates that he has not left the country. His visa is still active; it was due to expire in November. He has not left the country," Sudiaji Gare told Efe. Chili, Founder of the Aer Visa Lombok agency, who helped process Muñoz's permit.
Police on Lombok, a neighboring island of Bali, are investigating the disappearance of Muñoz, who was born in Ferrol (A Coruña) and lives in Mallorca, since last Wednesday, according to the West Lombok police station.
Complaint
Sudiaji himself filed a report about Muñoz's disappearance on August 5 in Lombok, after contacting Matilde's entourage in Spain. A friend of the septuagenarian, Olga Marín Calonge, first reported the disappearance on July 28 at the Sant Feliu de Guixols police station in Girona.
The last people to see the woman were employees of the Bumi Aditya hotel, on the western coastal area of Senggigi (Lombok), where she was staying on July 2, they claim.
Hotel employees told police and Muñoz's friends that after seeing her for the last time that day, she sent them a message on July 6 stating that she was in Laos, as Nurmala Hayati, the hotel's accountant, also confirmed this Friday. "I had no plans to go to Laos. And if I had, (the move) would have been recorded by Immigration," Sudiaji explained.
Matilde had extended her stay.
According to the Lombok hotel where Muñoz had previously stayed, the missing woman had extended her stay until July 20 when she was seen on the 2nd of that month.
The woman's last contact with her close circle was "at the end of June," explained another friend of the missing woman, Marta Ventura, on Friday.
The manager of the Indonesian visa agency, who met Muñoz for the first time in 2023, considered it "strange" that the Spaniard left the motorcycle she used to get around Lombok at the hotel.
Quiet Island
Lombok is a quiet island whose popularity has grown in part due to its potential as a less tourist-inclined alternative with idyllic landscapes similar to those of neighboring Bali.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicates in its travel advisory for Indonesia that violent attacks are not common, although it warns that there has been an increase in attacks against tourists, especially in Bali and Lombok.
It also adds that the country's "chaotic traffic conditions" make accidents frequent, highlighting that incidents involving motorcycles are common on the islands of Bali, Lombok, and Labuan Bajo.
Lombok police said on Saturday that they will report on the findings of the investigation "once it is completed."
