PalmIndonesian police are investigating the disappearance of 72-year-old María Matilde Muñoz Cazorla on Lombok, the island she arrived on in June and has not been seen since July, with no record of her leaving the country.

The police chief of the West Lombok police station in charge of the case told EFE on Friday that they began the investigation two days ago after receiving a notification from the Indonesian National Police's international relations department, in coordination with the Indonesian archipelago's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. "After receiving it, we immediately began a search," the officer said.

The woman, born in Ferrol (A Coruña) and living in Mallorca, arrived on the Indonesian island in June and had a room reserved at the Bumi Aditya Hotel, on the western coastal area of Senggigi, until July 20, although the establishment says they saw him on the 2nd. "We have searched other hotels and villas in the area," she says, in addition to having gone to the hotel where he was staying, with no clues yet about his whereabouts, while Indonesian Immigration authorities have no record that he has left the country.

"If he had returned to Spain, there would be a record of it. Currently, there isn't, which means he is still in Indonesia," the police officer assures, information confirmed to EFE by other sources close to the case. The agent points out that for the moment they cannot share hypotheses about his disappearance. "There are no conclusions yet," he emphasizes.

First alert

The first alert about the disappearance of Muñoz, a retiree who usually spends the year traveling in Asia and had frequently visited Indonesia and Lombok, a tourist island neighboring Bali, was raised by her friend Olga Marín Calonge on July 28 at the Sant Feliu de Guixols police station.

In her report, she indicates that she has not responded and that since "July 7, her WhatsApp messages have not appeared as received," and that she believes "that Ms. Muñoz's disappearance was not voluntary." The missing woman, single and without children, was very active in her communication with her close group of friends. Muñoz's last contact with her close circle was at the end of June, according to what another friend, Marta Ventura, told EFE.
