The Balearic Cultural Work announces the 38th edition of the December 31st awards
These awards recognize initiatives with a sense of country that promote the normal use of Catalan.
PalmThe Balearic Cultural Organization (OCB) announces the 38th edition of the December 31st Awards. The organization explains that these awards aim to recognize and encourage individual or collective initiatives with a sense of national identity that promote the normal use of Catalan in all areas of social life and foster the national awareness of the Balearic Islands.
According to the organization's announcement this Friday, all individuals, groups of individuals, companies, entities, or private and public organizations nominated as candidates by the board of directors of the Obra Cultural Balear (Balearic Cultural Work), by any of its branches—or by no fewer than three of its members—and by the members of the jury are eligible for these awards. Likewise, anyone may submit a nomination proposal to the OCB's board of directors, which will decide whether to submit it to the award jury.
Each nomination must be accompanied by a report justifying and reasoning the proposal. The nomination must be submitted to the secretariat of the Obra Cultural Balear (Balearic Cultural Work), at Carrer de Sant Alonso, 24, 07001 Palma, or by email to secretaria@ocb.cat. The deadline for submitting nominations is from September 8 to October 24, 2025.
The report must indicate the category of the award for which the nominee is nominated; The full name and surname of the candidates or the name of the proposed entity, the full address and telephone number of the candidate, as well as the same information of the person making the nomination. In the case of the Miquel dels Sants Oliver Award, the nomination must also include the title of the published work.
The awards correspond to the following categories:
Francesc de Borja Moll
Aimed at recognizing a public or private institution, group, or entity that has distinguished itself in the Balearic Islands for its dedication to the normalization of the language, culture, or national identity.
Josep Maria Llompart
Intended to honor an individual who has distinguished themselves in the Balearic Islands for their career of dedication to the normalization of language, culture, or national identity.
Emili Darder
Aimed at rewarding an initiative, experience, or personal career in the fields of education, teaching, or leisure, and especially those that promote the use of Catalan in formal and informal educational settings.
Clemente Garau
Aimed at recognizing individuals or projects that, within the field of communication, contribute to the social use of the Catalan language. The award recognizes both the career and innovation of media outlets, producers, programs, professionals, content creators, broadcast platforms, and the like.
Bartomeu Oliver
Aimed at awarding initiatives or projects for cultural creation or revitalization, language recovery, appreciation of popular culture, or local history.
Miquel dels Sants Oliver
Aimed at recognizing a work published between the previous year's call for entries and this one, which rigorously addresses a topic specific to the sciences, humanities, or technology and is of special interest to the Balearic Islands.
Bartomeu Rosselló-Pòrcel
Intended to award a young person under thirty years of age, or a group of young people, who have excelled in the field of art or culture in the Balearic Islands.
Aina Moll i Marquès
Aimed at awarding a person or entity that has distinguished themselves by carrying out, as a volunteer, activities to promote, disseminate, or enhance the prestige of the Catalan language in the Balearic Islands.
Gabriel Alomar
The OCB Board of Directors, after consulting the jury, grants this award, intended to recognize excellence in sustained civic, cultural, or linguistic work carried out by individuals or entities in any Catalan-speaking region.
Honorable Mention from the Jury
Exceptionally, the jury may award this distinction to entities, groups, or individuals who have recently made significant strides in the Balearic Islands through specific actions in support of the Catalan language and culture.
