The clouds steal the light from the Seo's eight

The light phenomenon, which only occurs twice a year, was not projected onto the interior wall of Mallorca Cathedral due to the lack of sunlight caused by the completely overcast sky.

PalmThe figure eight of the Seu did not appear on the wall of Mallorca Cathedral due to bad weather. A completely overcast sky deprived everyone of the necessary light to witness this visual spectacle, which only occurs twice a year (November 11th and February 2nd).

From early morning, the Seu was packed, with over a thousand people waiting to see an image that never materialized. In fact, before the Cathedral of Mallorca even opened its doors, there was already a long queue of people waiting to enter. Ultimately, the interior wall of the main facade did not reflect the Seu's eastern rose window, composed of 1,236 polychrome panes spanning a diameter of 13 meters.

It's worth remembering that the building's orientation is the determining factor in seeing this figure eight on the wall twice a year. Mallorca Cathedral is oriented 120 degrees southeast towards the sunrise on the winter solstice. It is precisely this orientation that allows the sun's rays to pass through the large rose window, located in the Trinity Chapel, and for the light to form the figure eight when it falls directly beneath the smaller rose window. The problem today is that the clouds have completely blocked the sunlight, and therefore no image has been projected.
