The Council begins its political course with mobility as a key area
Work on the first section of Palma's second beltway will begin in early 2026.
The Mallorcan Council begins the political year with an election promise that has yet to be fulfilled: to fund Mallorca's roads. Mobility will be one of the main pillars of this new phase, and the president of the island's institution, Llorenç Galmés, has announced that work will begin in the coming months on the ITV roundabout on the Sóller highway, and at the beginning of the year, work will begin on the first section of Palma's second ring road to ease congestion on the ring road.
Among the projects underway are the Son Verí Nou roundabout and the Llucmajor residential developments, which, according to Galmés, "will improve access to the airport motorway" and will be completed "by the end of the year." The island president announced that the governing team will also focus "on improving access to the Andratx and Inca motorways with two major projects that will be launched in the coming months." Galmés explained that these two points experience significant traffic jams at certain times of the day.
To end the waiting lists for vehicle inspections (ITV), Galmés announced that the five stations in Mallorca that provide this service will open on Saturdays in September "so that the citizens of Mallorca can have access to appointments." He noted that this "will mean 4,000 additional appointments during this month."
Galmés emphasized that the Palma Access Plan, with an investment of €164 million and 13 initiatives to ease congestion at the entrance to the city, "is more than 50% complete." The president highlighted the reinforcement works on the ring road and the fourth lane between the Balear Stadium and the Inca motorway, among other initiatives.
Furthermore, the island's institution plans to reduce the waste disposal fee by 10% next year. On the other hand, the government team will present the draft of the Tramuntana Mountains Law and the Law on Vehicle Entry Limitation in Mallorca.
