Investigate the death of a young man from Barcelona while he was lying on the roadway of the accesses to Menorca airport

PalmaA young man from Barcelona died early Tuesday morning after being run over by a taxi on the access roads to Menorca Airport, in Maó. The victim, who was spending a few days on holiday on the island with his family, was lying on the road when the driver of the vehicle hit him without noticing his presence. The circumstances in which the young man ended up on the road are still unknown and remain under investigation.

According to information from the National Police, the incident occurred around 5:30 AM. The taxi was heading to the airport's arrivals terminal when it hit the young man, who was lying on the road.

The National Police has not released his identity. An autopsy was performed on him this Tuesday, while investigators continue to work to clarify what happened before the accident and how the victim ended up on the road.

The investigation has been divided into two lines. On the one hand, the Local Police is responsible for clarifying the circumstances of the traffic accident, taking statements and conducting the corresponding technical inspections. In parallel, the National Police is investigating whether any criminal act occurred before the accident that could explain why the young man was lying on the road.

The accident forced traffic to be restricted in the area for nearly two hours. The body was recovered around 7:30 AM, and traffic was subsequently restored.
