PalmThe Palma City Council has approved the tender for the new beach concession for the period 2026-2029, with a reduction of more than 1,000 sunbeds and the loss of one beach umbrella in Cala Major, due to the erosion of the sand. This was announced by the Deputy Mayor and spokesperson for the City Council, Mercedes Celeste, at the press conference following the government board meeting held this Wednesday, where she was asked about complaints from neighborhood associations regarding the excessive space occupied by some concession holders. The municipal representative emphasized that the need to update this contract stems from the fact that, over the years, a decrease in sand and rest areas has been observed, so "it was necessary to redistribute them." "There is a reduction in occupancy on all beaches, with a focus on rationalizing the use of space," she stressed. The awarding of this contract could be extended for another four years, and its distribution will be done in lots covering the various beaches within the municipality. Lot 1 will be for the operation of Cala Major beach with a base budget of over €149,000 annually; Lot 2 covers Can Pere Antoni beach for just over €50,000; Lot 3, Ciutat Jardí beach for €137,000; and Lot 4, Cala Estància beach, will have a budget of over €3.1 million. The contract also stipulates the use and operation of temporary facilities in public spaces, such as sunbeds, umbrellas, kiosks (where permitted), and other items.

It will also regulate the installation and removal of elements such as lifeguard stations, accessibility points for people with reduced mobility, seagrass meadows, public restrooms, changing rooms, and beach cleaning, among other aspects.

In fact, a barrier-free zone for people with reduced mobility is planned for Cala Estància, featuring a central shade structure and seating for up to 24 people.

App for making reservations

Furthermore, it stipulates the requirement to create an app for booking sunbeds and parasols, as well as for renting pedal boats, kayaks, or paddleboards. This app should be available for the 2027 season, but its implementation for the 2026 season will be assessed.
