The cry from Gaza resonates in Menorca
Palestinian Kareem Saadeh cries for help after losing his father, the house, and the shop that provided him with a living, and documentary filmmaker Ainoa Pons echoes this sentiment.

Palm"My name is Kareem Saadeh and we are from Gaza. I am telling my story because I am desperate with so much pain, in case there is someone on the other side of the world who can hear me. Israel is killing us mercilessly, but I am still alive. I can still tell what is happening." This is how the 28-year-old begins the letter he sent to the Barcelona-based documentary filmmaker based in Menorca, Ainoa Pons. Kareem found her on social media, where Ainoa has demonstrated her support for the Palestinian cause and her activism. "I spread the word about the genocide on social media, and Kareem found me," explains Ainoa, who has joined initiatives such as @artistasperpalestina and @músicacontraelgenocidio.
Kareem has launched a campaign to raise donations to help alleviate the emergency situation. This Tuesday, she was able to speak with Ainoa via video call, thanks to the collaboration of journalist Suzi Zaky, who acted as a translator. "They are surviving. We have explained to her how she must do it to move forward with her campaign, because she is in an emergency situation and needs to buy medicine for her mother," says Ainoa Pons.
In his letter, Kareem explains that he was born in Khan Yunis (in the southwestern part of the Gaza Strip), near the Rafah border crossing, an area of refugee camps. "Khan Yunis is where I lost my father in a bombardment on July 27," he explains. Since then, he has been trying to survive with his family "in deplorable conditions." With a 45-year-old mother, a 20-year-old sister, and a 17-year-old brother, Kareem has been forced to move to Deir al-Balah, a two-hour walk from what was once his home.
"I used to have a life, I had my cleaning products store, but I have lost everything: our home, my job, my security, and my basic needs. We desperately need help to survive. We urgently need food, clean water, medicine, and support to restore, even if it is just a small part, the moments when Kareem found his father dead. "Please, if you can, help." Don't stop talking about us, don't let our lives die in vain, don't let the only thing we have left go out: our voice," the letter concludes.
