PalmaThe cold drop Adam continues over the Balearic Islands. It has once again left rainfall in the Balearic Islands during the night and early hours of this Tuesday, with downpours that entered through Ibiza and Formentera and advanced towards Mallorca and Menorca. The precipitation has been seen throughout the Archipelago, but has been very notable in Calvià (79), Andratx (72), Banyalbufar (64), and Escorca (60), where it left between 79 and 60 liters per square meter in one hour. The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) keeps the yellow warning for rain and storms active throughout the entire Archipelago.
The new rainfall arrives after a day marked by intense precipitation and more than 300 incidents recorded in the Balearic Islands. Even so, the General Directorate of Emergencies and Interior of the Government has decided to lower the alert levels following the meeting of the Cecopi of the Meteobal and Inunbal plans on Monday afternoon.
The entire Archipelago is on yellow alert on Tuesday for storms and heavy rain. The low-risk warning will remain in effect until 12:00 PM in Mallorca, Ibiza, and Formentera, while in Menorca it will be extended until 6:00 PM. Thus, Mallorca moves from red alert to yellow, while Ibiza and Formentera go down from the red level to orange. Menorca, which was on orange alert, also moves to the yellow level. This reduction will allow for the resumption of educational activity on Tuesday, as well as outdoor sports, social, and cultural activities.
The risk of flooding remains in the Pityusic Islands
Despite the general improvement in the meteorological situation, the Inunbal Plan remains activated on the four islands, but with different operational levels. In Ibiza and Formentera, operational situation 2 is maintained, given the complexity of the situation and the large amounts of water accumulated during the last 24 hours.
In Mallorca, on the other hand, the operational situation of the Inunbal Plan is moving from level 2 to level 0, because the conditions are more favorable.
The UME could leave Mallorca
Regarding the emergency device, the contingent of the Military Emergencies Unit (UME) deployed to Mallorca could withdraw from the island if the situation does not worsen.
In Formentera, the intervention of military personnel has been decisive in speeding up the response to incidents, in coordination with the rest of the island's emergency services.
Despite the lowering of alert levels, the forecast of new showers and the still delicate situation of the Pityusic Islands maintain the need to follow the authorities' recommendations and exercise extreme caution in the face of possible water accumulations.
