The disappearance of a Mallorcan woman in Indonesia is being investigated.
Police in the country say she was last seen on July 2.
PalmIndonesian police are investigating the disappearance of 72-year-old María Matilde Muñoz Cazorla on Lombok, an island she arrived on in June and where she has not been seen since July, with no record of her leaving the country.
The police chief of the West Lombok police station in charge of the case told Efe on Friday that they began their investigation two days ago, after receiving a notification from the International Relations Department of the Indonesian National Police, in coordination with the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. "After receiving it, we immediately began a search," the officer said.
The woman, born in Ferrol (A Coruña) and based in Mallorca, arrived on the Indonesian island in June and had a room reserved at the Bumi Aditya hotel, on the western coastal area of Senggigi, until July 20, although the establishment says they saw her. "We've searched other hotels and establishments in the area," he says, in addition to having visited the hotel where he was staying. He still has no clues about his whereabouts, while Indonesian immigration authorities have no record of him leaving the country.
"If he had returned to Spain, there would be a record. Currently, there isn't, which means he's still in Indonesia," the police officer assures, information confirmed to Efe by other sources close to the case. The officer notes that for the moment they cannot share any hypotheses about his disappearance. "There are no conclusions yet," he emphasizes.
First alert
The first alert about the disappearance of Muñoz, a retiree who usually spends the year traveling in Asia and had frequently visited Indonesia and Lombok, a tourist island neighboring Bali, was raised by her friend Olga Marín Calonge on July 28 at the Sant Feliu de Guixols police station in Girona.
In the report, she indicates that she has not responded and that since "July 7, no messages have appeared on WhatsApp," and that she believes "that Ms. Muñoz's disappearance was not voluntary." The missing woman, single and without children, was very active in communication with her close group of friends. Muñoz's last contact with her close circle was at the end of June, according to what another friend, Marta Ventura, told Efe.
