The discovery of Talayotic remains in the courtyard of the Sineu High School requires modifications to its extension.

This area, located at the entrance to Sineu on the Lloret road, already had the remains found so far catalogued. With the first expansion of the center, remains of walls and pottery from the Talayotic period were discovered.

SinedThe discovery of archaeological remains in the courtyard of the Sineu Secondary School will require modifications to the new construction that will be part of the school's expansion.

The Sineu Secondary School is located on a site called Los Clapers d'en Vellana, a place name that already tells us something. And so it was: in the school's last expansion (2005), the construction had to be modified due to the discovery of remains from the Talayotic period. Now the proposal for a new expansion has once again collided with the discovery "of a three-meter-wide wall that could be part of a wall and the discovery of a large amount of material, ceramics, from the Talayotic period and other imported materials from the Roman period," explains archaeologist Raquel Barceló, in charge of constructing the manholes.

This area, located at the entrance to Sineu on the Lloret road, already had the remains found so far catalogued. With the first expansion of the school, remains of walls and ceramics from the Talayotic period were discovered.

Now, these remains can be visited at an open day this Saturday at 9:30 a.m. and there will also be some tours and explanations for the students of the center.

According to Barceló, once these findings, which are part of the center's courtyard, have been studied and inventoried, it is not yet known whether they will be covered again or remain visible. He also says that under no circumstances will the extension of the center be built on top of them.

"We have carried out surveys in other spaces on the same property with negative results in terms of the discovery of archaeological remains and if in the first extension the building was built further forward than originally planned, now the new construction will also have to be moved to the area where we know there are no remains."

Let us remember that the expansion of the center is an urgent need demanded by the entire educational community and the Sineu City Council itself. The center currently has 11 prefabricated classrooms or barracks, and the promised expansion dates back to 2023. We must assume that the center has grown from the initial 600 students to the current 1,200+.
