The Correllengua 2026 flame will travel through all Catalan-speaking territories for the first time.
It will be the most ambitious edition to date and will reach more than 1,500 municipalities throughout the linguistic domain
PalmThe flame of Catalan will run farther and farther than ever before. The Correllengua Agermanat 2026 will unite all Catalan-speaking territories for the first time in a route of more than 1,500 kilometers and 17 stages, crossing over 1,500 municipalities in Northern Catalonia, the Principality of Catalonia, the Valencian Community, the Balearic Islands, and Alghero. The initiative, which will take place between April 19 and May 5, 2026, aims to promote the unity of the Catalan language and encourage its social use through a non-competitive race that combines sport, culture, and celebration. The presentation was held simultaneously in Catalonia, the Valencian Community, and the Balearic Islands, as a symbol of the desire for unity among these territories. Driven by the collaboration of more than one hundred entities, Correllengua will have cultural events, concerts, workshops and popular activities in nearly 1,500 municipalities and will stop and hold welcoming events in one hundred.
The journey will begin in Prada (Northern Catalonia) and pass through Girona, Barcelona, Tarragona, Castellón, Valencia, Alicante, Ibiza, Palma, Mahón, and will end in Alghero. In the Balearic Islands, the flame will arrive in Formentera on April 29; Ibiza on April 30; Menorca on May 1; and Mallorca on May 2. From there, it will continue to Alghero, where the journey will conclude on May 5 with a closing ceremony.
Linguistic Unity
The Correllengua initiative was born in Mallorca in 1995, driven by Jóvenes de Mallorca por la Lengua (Youth of Mallorca for Language), and since then it has been carried out in hundreds of municipalities throughout the Mallorcan language area. This new edition aims to take a step forward and connect all the territories in a single initiative. "The Correllengua, more ambitious than ever, proposes an edition that wants to go further: to unite more voices and make the language resonate strongly throughout the territory," explains Pau Emili Muñoz, spokesperson for the Correllengua Hermanado (Twin Correllengua).
Muñoz emphasizes that the aim is to celebrate and share the language, not just defend it. "We want to live fully in Catalan and do so collectively," she affirms. She also reminds everyone that everyone can participate, whether by running a section or getting involved through local organizations: "Every step counts. Every section is a yes to Catalan."
The Correllengua (Language Run) maintains the essence of previous years: the flame will be passed from hand to hand among local runners, and in each municipality, the manifesto will be read and cultural and festive activities will take place. According to the organizers, the project is collective and open, without a single leading entity, and aims to be "a space for encounter and participation that puts the language at the center of daily life." Anyone wishing to participate can contact local organizations in their municipality or, in the case of Mallorca, contact Jóvenes de Mallorca por la Llengua (Youth of Mallorca for the Language).
