The Mallorca Council invites American journalists to a trip to the island to promote tourism.
An air route between Canada and Palma will be launched in June 2026.
PalmThe Mallorca Council has paid for an organized trip for six American journalists—most of whom are Colombian—to promote the island and, according to the island institution, "to publicize the strategy for respect and coexistence." The Council emphasized that these professionals "represent a large group of media outlets with an impact in this specific country [Colombia] and others in the American region."
The journalists will be in Mallorca until September 13—they arrived on the 8th—and during these days will participate in organized visits so that "they can appreciate values such as improving the visitor experience and a clear focus on environmental and social sustainability, where coexistence between residents and tourists is a priority," the councilor stated. The Council's statement indicates that guests will visit "some of the island's most emblematic spots," including "the Rafa Nadal Academy Tennis School, Capdepera Castle, the Tramuntana Mountains, and towns such as Palma, Sóller, Valldemossa, and Deià." They will also be able to "taste the local cuisine and learn about the island's historical and cultural heritage, as well as local crafts and produce."
The Mallorca Council has been working for years to incorporate new tourist markets to the island, and after the pandemic, it turned its attention to the United States. Furthermore, this strategy has been shared by the PSOE and PP. "It's a market that interests us a lot because it's committed to quality tourism. It's a tourist with high purchasing power interested in culture, gastronomy and heritage, values other than sun and sand. It's a commitment to quality and sustainability," said the then island president, Catalina Cladera (PSOE), in April 2023 during Meeting with travel agents and tour operators from the United States and CanadaMonths earlier, in November 2023, they were also marked as priorities the markets of Asia and the Middle East.
New air route
Meanwhile, Air Canada has announced a new route between Montreal and Palma de Mallorca, which will launch in June 2026. According to the company, this is the first new route operated by its extra-long-range Airbus A321, which it expects to receive in the first quarter of next year. Flights from Montreal to Palma will begin on June 17 and will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 6:45 p.m. Flights from Palma to Montreal will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays at 12:15 p.m. Air Canada Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer, Mark Galardo, emphasized that the airline will be the first in the country to offer flights to Mallorca.
More flights and seats in New York
The strategy to open markets in the American continent has served to increase flights and seats (75%) of the connection between Palma and New York, since United Airlines launched the route with the city in June 2022, as announced by the company and the island's institution at the beginning of the year. Furthermore, the operating period for these flights has been extended by one month, until October 24, with an increase from three to four frequencies per week. "As the only airline connecting Mallorca with the United States, we are delighted to announce this extension, which further underlines the importance of the Palma route in United Airlines' global network," stated the airline's sales manager, Antonio del Toro.
