The National Police responds to the complaints of the injured by the charges with a report where they defend their actions

PalmaThe National Police is finalizing a report that it plans to submit to the court regarding the incidents recorded at the end of the anti-overcrowding demonstration held on July 26 in Palma. This was announced by the police force a few days after the platform Menys Turisme, Més Vida and Alerta Solidària made known the details of the judicial offensive they are preparing against the officers who injured about twenty demonstrators to varying degrees. The document, according to sources familiar with the content consulted by Europa Press, records the throwing of objects, alleged assaults on officers, and incidents with tourists, and argues that the police charges in the vicinity of Les Voltes and Antoni Maura avenue were a response to "the escalation of tension".

The conclusions are, for the moment, part of the police version of events and are based, according to the same sources, on various videos compiled during the investigation. The Police maintain that the images make it possible to identify a small group of people who allegedly resorted to violence at the end of the protest, throwing objects such as bottles, cans, and stones, as well as alleged pushes and shoves against officers. It also assures that some demonstrators allegedly heckled tourists who were in the area.

The protest had proceeded normally

According to the police report, the demonstration proceeded with "total normality" for a good part of the route and the problems were concentrated upon arrival at Les Voltes.

According to the report, the agents warned the person responsible for the protest that the people participating in the march did not fit in the space planned for the reading of the manifesto. For this reason, always according to this version, they would have been offered to hold the event outdoors.

Given the organization's refusal to modify the planned location, the Police assure that it was agreed to establish three filters to allow the entry of demonstrators progressively. The sources consulted, however, indicate that the promoter of the demonstration would have communicated via megaphone to the participants that the Police were preventing them from accessing Les Voltes. From that moment on, according to the National Police, the atmosphere began to tense and the first pushes against the agents occurred.

The National Police speaks of a "hostile crowd"

The document describes that the police officers who were on the walkway connecting Antoni Maura Avenue with Ses Voltes became "stuck" at this point, a narrow space delimited by the wall and the rocks of the lake. This situation, always according to the police version, made it necessary to request reinforcements. The report describes the group that, according to the Police, allegedly surrounded the officers and pushed them towards Antoni Maura Avenue as a "hostile crowd." Despite everything, the images show that what the State Corps and Security Forces call a "crowd" does not exceed a hundred people, including journalists and photojournalists.

It is at this point that the police account places the most serious incidents. According to the same sources, the analyzed images show a small group of people with their faces covered who allegedly threw bottles, cans, and stones at the officers. The Police also assure that some of the participants allegedly harassed tourists who were in the vicinity. Faced with this situation, those responsible for the operation allegedly ordered charges to disperse the protesters.

The report, which is still in the drafting phase, will be sent to the court and aims to provide the police version of the incidents and justify the police charges against the protesters. The claims about alleged throws, assaults, and other incidents will have to be evaluated within the framework of the judicial investigation.
