25 people will report the National Police to the courts for the police charges of July 26

PalmaA total of 25 people have initiated legal actions to report the aggressions they claim to have suffered during the police charges at the demonstration against mass tourism held on July 26 in Palma. The complaints have been channeled through Alerta Solidària, which assumes the legal support for the platform Menys Turisme, Més Vida.

In a press conference held this Wednesday in Palma, the entities reported that all the complainants claim to have received baton blows "without any cause to justify it." Likewise, they have denounced that during the police intervention, immediate medical assistance to the injured was prevented or made difficult.

According to the data provided by the organization, 16 out of the 25 affected people required medical assistance. Most presented bruises and contusions with an estimated recovery period of between two and three weeks. However, two people suffered cranial fractures, one of whom was a photojournalist. This latter required six stitches and was discharged the next day, while the other was admitted two days after an internal hemorrhage was detected.

Alerta Solidària has explained that, based on the medical reports issued by the health centers, the corresponding complaints have already been formalized. In parallel, the entity is analyzing the numerous images recorded during the charges with the aim of identifying the agents allegedly involved and attributing the reported actions to them.

In addition to the complaints, the organization is considering filing lawsuits for the most serious cases, a path that it currently plans to pursue in relation to the two individuals who suffered cranial fractures. It is also analyzing the possibility of reporting police commanders for an alleged crime against the exercise of the fundamental right to demonstrate, classified under article 540 of the Penal Code.

During the appearance, the entities conveyed a message of support to all those affected by the police action, both those who were injured and those who, without being hit, witnessed the events. "We will not leave them alone," they said.

The organization also reiterated its demand for political responsibility for the police charges. In this regard, it called for the resignation of the Spanish government delegate in the Balearic Islands and asked for clarification of the chain of command and the orders that motivated the police intervention. According to the organizers, the demonstration had been previously communicated and was developing in a "massive and peaceful" manner before the charges.

Finally, the spokesperson for Less Tourism, More Life, Jaume Pujol, recalled that a new mobilization has been called for this Saturday in Sóller. Pujol asked that the officers who, according to the organization, starred in the episodes of violence on July 26th do not participate and expressed confidence that the citizens will once again respond massively to demand measures against mass tourism.
