PalmaThe residents of Son Serra de Marina, in Santa Margalida, have expressed dissatisfaction regarding the dirt left on the coast by the confetti from the town's festivities. They point out that these items are currently no longer made of paper, but of non-biodegradable plastic, and warn that much of it ends up falling into the sea due to the wind.
According to them, the confetti is placed during the first week of July and can remain installed until the Beata festivities, meaning that for weeks it deteriorates under the effect of the sun and the wind.
The neighbors claim that they have tried to alert the City Council about the situation. One resident states that about two weeks ago he called the City Council and they replied that they would notify someone, but he assures that no action has been taken.
Faced with this situation, several residents have organized waste collections on their own. In a single day, they explain, they managed to fill four plastic bags.
The neighbors consider, however, that removing the litter that reaches the sea is a task "impossible to cover" for individuals and they assure that the City Council does not have the necessary means to remove it from the water either.
A cleaning device is missing
For their part, the socialists of Santa Margalida have criticized that "the mayor is once again neglecting basic services" and criticize the lack of a cleaning device after the festivities of Son Serra de Marina, which causes the wind to scatter plastic towards the beach and the sea, with a serious and avoidable ecological impact.
