The Casal of Perpignan will give three talks in Mallorca about the reality of Northern Catalonia
Representatives of the entity will address the situation of Catalan, the rise of the far-right, and the debate on the future name of the Eastern Pyrenees
PalmRepresentatives from Casal de Perpinyà will visit Mallorca this week to participate in various talks on the social, political, and linguistic reality of Northern Catalonia and to share experiences with organizations on the island.
The initiative includes three public events scheduled between Thursday and Saturday in Palma, Maria de la Salut, and Manacor. The sessions will address issues such as the current situation of the Catalan language in Northern Catalonia, the evolution of social movements in the territory, and the history of the casal after 17 years of activity.
Political issues will also be addressed, such as the far-right's victory in Perpignan or the open debate on the future name of the Pyrénées-Orientales department, which will be decided in a popular consultation scheduled for June. Among the options proposed are keeping the current name or replacing it with Catalan Pyrenees or Mediterranean Pyrenees.
The meetings aim to strengthen the cultural and historical ties between the Balearic Islands and North Catalonia, territories united by the same language and by historical links dating back several centuries.
