The president and part of the GOB board resign in a tense extraordinary assembly
The 13 members remaining at the head of the environmental organization assure that the entity will continue working with more strength if necessary
The extraordinary assembly of GOB this Friday ended with the resignation of ten members of the board of directors, including the president, Teresa Cuennet. The reason, as explained by the resigned members: the impossibility of reaching an understanding with the other part of the same board of directors regarding the entity's model and work system.
In a session marked by unusual tension in the entity's meetings, a significant division within the leadership was staged, which, as some of those present confirmed to ARA Balears, was triggered just after Margalida Ramis's departure as spokesperson, "although it had been brewing for some time," said the same sources.
In any case, the intervention of the already resigned president focused on criticizing the methods and "the excessively harsh tone" of the critical sector of the board of directors, which now remains in charge with 13 members. In their defense, those accused of these excessively harsh methods explained that they have been with the entity for more than three decades, that they have rejoined as directors because they considered that campaigns lacked more impetus and that the environmental and social moment requires more focus on this aspect.
Despite this, they denied having behaved inappropriately in any case and vindicated the importance of debate and the confrontation of ideas. They invited the present members to continue participating in GOB as before, "because it is needed and stronger than ever".
