The pro-independence left calls for a demonstration for Mallorca's National Day
The march will depart from the Passeig del Born on the 30th at 6 pm
PalmThe organizations that make up the Independentist Left of Mallorca (EIM) (CUP, Arran, SEPC, Adelante, and Alerta Soliaria) have called for a demonstration on Tuesday, December 30th, at 6:00 PM on the Passeig del Born in Palma to demand that Mallorca Day be celebrated again on December 31st. This was announced by EIM spokespeople Dani Comas and Marta Serrano this Saturday at a press conference on the steps of the Cathedral of Palma (La Seu) to present the events organized to demand that Mallorca Day be celebrated on December 31st.
The demonstration called for Tuesday, December 30, which will begin at 6:00 p.m. on the Paseo del Born in Palma and will end in the Plaza del Tub with a popular dance by Al-Mayurqa and concerts by various groups that will be made public in the coming days, will be carried out with the slogan 'feminism'.
"With this slogan, we want to convey that mobilization and political struggle are the essential driving force for building a free Mallorca. We are aware that there is much to fight for, especially in a political context marked by the far right represented by the PP and Vox parties, with a socioeconomic model based on tourist monoculture and speculation, like speculation in the town. But it is precisely for this reason that the struggle is urgent: because we have everything to gain. A free, socialist, and feminist Mallorca that puts the land and its people at the center and defends its own language and culture," stated Marta Serrano.
Language, cohesion, and inclusion
On the other hand, Serrano highlighted the role of language in the political project of the Independentist Left of Mallorca and asserted that "Catalan is the backbone of the Catalan Countries and a tool for social cohesion." "Spanish nationalism attacks our own language because it knows perfectly well that it is a central element of our collective identity and what defines us as a people," he stated. The spokespeople also denounced "the increase in hate speech against migrants." Specifically, they emphasized that "the national, social, and gender liberation project of the Independentist Left of Mallorca is for all people who live and work in Mallorca." "The Mallorca we want is diverse and excludes no one," he stressed. Program of events
The Independentist Left has announced three events leading up to the December 30th demonstration. The first event will take place on Sunday, December 21st, and will consist of a group hike to Galatzó to revive a tradition from previous years, spokespeople emphasized. A few days later, on December 27th, there will be an open organizational meeting and a community dinner at the La Fonera Community Center. Finally, on Sunday, December 28th, a youth pre-demonstration will be held in Felanitx, featuring pub crawls, a political rally, and concerts.
