The PSIB suspects there may be "interests" in the allocation of tourist places by the Consell de Mallorca.
The island institution has canceled some calls due to errors in the computer system.
The computer system that the Council uses to award the 1,570 tourist places that went on sale this September continues to fail. After canceling calls for applications due to computer errors on the platform, the PSIB suspects that "there may be interested people who cannot access the system," said the Socialist spokesperson for the island institution, Catalina Cladera.
The Socialist spokesperson emphasized that the allocation of places is in the order in which they are received on the digital platform and stressed that the Socialists would not like to think that "the cancellation of the calls for applications could be related to any specific case where places are left unavailable." Similarly, she recalled controversial cases such as the Sa Vinya agrotourism resorts, owned by Jaume Porsell, and the Atalaya Blanca resort, owned by Joan Monjo, among others.
In July, the system crashed for the first time in the allocation of 500 places for buildings listed as Assets of Cultural Interest (BIC). This call for applications was canceled and postponed until September 9. "A computer problem can be solved in 48 hours; we don't understand why it should be postponed for two months," question sources from the PSIB. Similarly, Cladera lamented that "it's been over two months since Marcial Rodríguez announced that they would open this sale of spaces, and in all this time he has been unable to organize a decent process."
On September 1, a call for applications was also launched to award 654 tourist rental spaces, but the system immediately crashed again. Instead of canceling it, the island institution waited for the process to conclude. Sources from the Consell's Tourism Department explain that they still do not know if the granting of tourist spaces will be canceled and clarify that they are maintaining relations with the tourist rental employers' association "to find a solution."
All tourist accommodations are part of the two temporary pools created by the Consell de Consell de Turismo (CBAT), a subsidiary of the Consell de Mallorca (Mallorca Council), following the government's approval of the Decree on Tourism Containment. Both pools are filled with accommodations that have been closed since the regulations were approved, either ex officio or voluntarily.
Rodriguez's resignation
Following the cancellations of the calls for the allocation of tourist accommodation, El Pi demands the resignation of Marcial Rodríguez. The party believes that these repeated errors and lack of planning not only harm the sector, but also generate legal uncertainty, inequalities, and a poor international image for Mallorca.
