In the case of the Serra, the system will cover 32 areas and is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2026. The President of the Consell, Llorenç Galmés, has highlighted that the project responds to complaints from several local councils in the area and will allow for the regulation of irresponsible traffic that affects safety and con.

The approval of the plan has been delayed until approval is obtained from the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT), a necessary requirement for the cameras to be used in imposing sanctions. Once operational, the captured images will be transferred to the DGT, which has the power to impose sanctions in traffic matters.

In addition to strengthening road safety, the system will allow for analysis of real-life traffic on Mallorca's roads and planning of improvement actions. With this project, the Consell will double the number of checkpoints on the island's road network, adding 52 new devices to the existing 53.

All the old cameras will be replaced with more modern equipment, which will allow for both surveillance and the counting and classification of vehicles, including bicycles. The project, initially planned for around 30 cameras in the Serra, has been expanded at the request of the Government, the Civil Guard, and several local authorities, in order to cover more sensitive areas.
