PalmaThe staff board of the Son Espases University Hospital has not approved the drafting of a condemnation document regarding the alleged case of workplace harassment reported by the center's former communications manager, the journalist Sabrina Vidal. The issue was addressed this Monday in an extraordinary meeting called at the request of the nursing union Satse, after Vidal made her case public last week. However, the hospital manager, Cristina Granados, did not attend the meeting.

According to trade union sources, IB-Salut had already communicated that Granados would not attend the meeting. The argument was that it is not appropriate to address a case that, according to the organization, there is no record of having been reported through established channels and which, furthermore, affects a worker who is no longer part of the Son Espases staff. In this way, the board has not been able to demand explanations from the manager, one of the issues that Satse intended to raise during the meeting. The union's main proposal did not prosper either: to draft a document in which the workers' representation would express rejection of the alleged harassment reported by Vidal. The initiative did not obtain the necessary majority.

Satse has proposed, instead, that a document be drawn up establishing guidelines for action in the event of possible future cases of workplace harassment and that current protocols for dealing with such situations be reviewed. The union has also demanded that IB-Salut verify whether Vidal brought the facts to the attention of any of her superiors by email, despite not having resorted to the specific internal procedures for reporting harassment situations.

For union sources, this communication could serve to determine if management had knowledge of what was happening, a matter they take for granted. In this sense, they point out that, if the complaint had been processed through internal channels, it would have been up to the management itself to handle and resolve a case that directly affected it. "The system has failed completely," denounced sources from Satse. The union believes that, without the support of the staff board, it will be difficult for the alleged harassment case to be investigated internally.
