Mobility

The TIB buses that connect the municipalities of Mallorca with the airport will run all year round.

During the off-season, the four lines will have an average of between 26 and 38 daily trips.

The Balearic Islands Transport (TIB) buses connecting the Calvià, Inca, Manacor, Sa Pobla, Alcúdia, Llucmajor, and Campos area with Son Sant Joan Airport will offer a regular service year-round, even during the off-season, as announced this Thursday by the Minister of Housing, Mobility, and Territory, José Luis Mat. This service will begin this Saturday on lines A11 (Camp de Mar-Airport), A33 (from the Port of Alcúdia), A43 (Manacor), and A51 (Campos). Buses will run every hour to every hour and 1 hour and 15 minutes, depending on the line. The first buses will depart between 4:15 and 4:40 a.m. for the airport, and the last buses will leave Son Sant Joan between 10:30 and 11:40 p.m. The four lines will have an average of between 26 and 38 daily trips. Mateo emphasized that this is the first time a regular service has been offered on the four Aerotib bus lines during the off-season and from Monday to Sunday. The objective of this initiative is to "respond to the demand of citizens" and guarantee connectivity between the main population centers of Mallorca and the airport. According to the manager of the Mallorca Transport Consortium (CTM), Luisa Serra, the Aerotib service had not been offered during the off-season in the last five years, and in the three years prior, from 2017 to 2019, it was offered with a maximum of eight trips per day. These changes have been made possible thanks to the modification of the concessions of the bus service. With the change in the three contracts, the service offering goes from 16.5 million kilometers (included in the contracts initiated in 2021) to 24.6 million annually in the modification, which represents an increase of almost 50% of the service initially planned.

Timetables for the four lines

During the press conference, Serra detailed the services that each of the four lines will provide, including the number of trips and their schedules. The A11, which connects the Calvià area, began service last December and will continue this winter starting this Saturday. It will stop in Portals Nous, Palmanova, Magaluf, and Santa Ponça, with an average frequency of one hour and fifteen minutes. In total, it will run 26 trips daily, with the first departure at 4:40 a.m. from Peguera and the last at 10:30 p.m. from the airport. The A33 will cover the northern part of the island—replacing the A32 due to route changes—and will connect the bays of Pollença and Alcúdia via a transfer at the Alcúdia and Port de Alcúdia stops. This line will also stop in Sa Pobla and Inca, with an average frequency of one hour, a total of 35 daily trips, and its first departure at 4:15 a.m. from the Port of Alcúdia, while the last will be at 11:35 p.m. from Son Sant Joan Airport. The Levante region will be served by line A43, which will replace A42, also due to a route modification. It will connect the region with the airport and offer the possibility of transferring at Manacor train station. It will have stops, requiring prior booking, in Algaida, Montuïri, and Vilafranca, with an average frequency of one hour, 38 daily trips, and a first departure at 4:30 a.m. from Manacor and a last at 11:25 p.m. from the airport. The A51 will finally continue the service it already provides during the summer months, with stops in Arenal, the Son Noguera industrial park, Llucmajor, and Campos. It will run approximately every hour, with 38 trips daily. The first departure will be at 4:35 a.m. from Campos, and the last at 11:40 p.m. from Son Sant Joan. The CTM manager stated that the intention was to connect more points in Mallorca with the airport year-round, although she acknowledged that it is "impossible" for the Aerotib (Island Airport Transport Consortium) to stop in every municipality. "We are going to try to ensure that people who work at the airport can use public transport throughout the day and that residents don't have to drive; we want it to be a real alternative to using private vehicles," she emphasized.
