The train drivers in Mallorca are not joining the state strike at the moment.
They are awaiting the decision of the national unions before deciding whether to join the sectoral strike.
PalmTrain drivers in Mallorca are not currently joining the nationwide strike called by the Spanish Union of Railway Drivers (SEMAF), as they lack representation within the Mallorca Railway Services (SFM). However, sources within the group indicate they will consider this possibility after the national union meeting scheduled for this Thursday. According to the SFM Works Council, if a joint action is agreed upon at the meeting, the train drivers in Mallorca could join the strike. Meanwhile, the Works Council will meet locally this Thursday to gather their demands regarding safety and to assess "the current state of safety within the company." During this meeting, the possibility of a regional strike could also be considered should negotiations with management fail to progress.
The union movement comes at a time when train drivers and other groups in the railway sector are denouncing working conditions and safety issues they consider unresolved, and are closely monitoring agreements reached at the national level to decide on their participation.
