The Transfeminist Coordinator calls for a demonstration on November 25th in Palma
The march will start next Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. from the Porta Pintada square in Palma (next to Plaza de España).
PalmThe Transfeminist Coordinating Committee of Mallorca will hold a demonstration on November 25th, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, focusing on the "worrying resurgence" of gender-based violence and hate speech. This "global" phenomenon has been identified particularly among young men, and they consider it a backlash against the advances of the feminist movement, which they believe are being fueled by digital platforms and "reactionary" influencers. This issue will be one of the themes of the demonstration, which, under the slogan "Fight gender-based violence, be a feminist activist," will begin at 6:30 p.m. in Plaça d'Espanya and proceed through the streets of Palma to Plaça de Cort, where a manifesto will be read.
The Coordinating Committee, in a statement, pointed to the far right as "one of the main drivers" of the regression in women's rights, citing its focus on "identifying enemies and dividing society with false arguments." This "offensive," the group maintained, seeks to "promote a return to traditional gender roles and reinforce a model of the white woman as submissive and relegated to domestic life." They also warned that gender-based violence "is not only not decreasing but is transforming and intensifying" in the form of sexual assault, vicarious violence, and digital control.
The organization also criticized the State for "the increased repression against social movements" through the application of the so-called gag law and the use of police force. For this reason, they emphasized the need to strengthen collective organizing as a tool to confront both gender-based violence and "institutional repression." The Coordinating Committee, in this vein, called for mobilization on November 25th and appealed for a collective response "to hatred, precariousness, and sexist violence."
