PalmThe UIB contacted the cleaning concessionaire Isla Centinela SLU (of which IC Serveis is a part) this Thursday and will review the contract to ensure that the workers do not return to work in extreme temperatures. In a statement, the university apologized to both the company and the cleaners. As explained by the ARA BalearesIn recent years, they had had to carry out their work in practically closed buildings without air conditioning, as the air conditioning was turned off for three weeks in August.

In a statement, the university explained that the Vice-Rector for Economy, Infrastructure and Campus, Carles Mulet, has already contacted the company to "apologize and clarify the situation." "The UIB is closed for vacation for three weeks in August, a period in which there is no academic activity," the institution noted in the text. "For this reason, the general air conditioning system is disconnected, in accordance with the UIB Sustainability Strategy, to avoid energy consumption outside of teaching activity."

Both the UIB and IC Serveis denied being aware of the cleaners' situation. For this reason, the university has also apologized to the workers. "Both entities will review the specifications to prevent this situation from recurring, in accordance with the demands of the workers and the company," it specified.
