The Balearic Islands' water reserves fall to 39% in July
The islands lose six points of reserve in a month and more than 30% of the territory is already in a state of alert
PalmaThe water reserves in the Balearic Islands have dropped to 39% during the month of July, six points less than the previous month, according to data from the monitoring of the hydrological situation of the Balearic Hydrographic Demarcation.
By islands, Mallorca registers 39% reserve, compared to 46% in June; Menorca remains at 34%, while Ibiza goes from 47% to 42%. The Ministry of the Sea and Water Cycle has reported that all demand units have decreased during July, with the most significant drops in Manacor-Felanitx and Ibiza.
Despite the drop in reserves, the general index of the Hydrographic Demarcation stands at 0.386, above the 0.366 recorded in the same period last year and the 0.365 from two years ago.
Regarding the territorial situation, 9.5% of the territory is in a normal situation, corresponding to the demand units of Formentera and Tramuntana Sud. 58.9% is in a pre-alert situation and includes Menorca, Artà, Palma-Alcúdia, Tramuntana Nord, and Ibiza.
31.6% of the territory is already in an alert situation. These are the areas of Pla, Manacor-Felanitx, and Migjorn.
Looking ahead to August, the Government expects reserves to continue falling, an evolution considered typical for the time of year and conditioned by the current trend in water resources.
