The witnesses to the femicide of Rosario in Can Pastilla found the victim's body embedded in the car's bumper
The witnesses of the accident explain at the trial that the accused got out of the vehicle "as if the thing had nothing to do with him" after crashing it against another car
PalmaThe jury trial for the murder of Maria del Rosario with 66 stab wounds, in December 2024, continues this Tuesday at the Provincial Court of the Balearic Islands with the testimony of several witnesses who went to the scene of the accident following the crime.
One of the witnesses, an Endesa security guard who was in the vicinity, explained that after finishing his shift and while heading toward his vehicle, he heard "a great explosion." He then approached the crashed vehicle and, initially, did not see anyone. Shortly after, however, he saw "the little head of the minor appear" in the back of the car. When he looked toward the passenger side, he saw Maria del Rosario's body "wedged" into the vehicle's dashboard in a position he described as "shocking."
Another witness, a woman who was leaving an establishment in the area, also explained that she heard a "very loud noise" and that, upon approaching, she saw the accused get out of the vehicle "as if it had nothing to do with him." When she approached the wrecked car, she recounted, she saw the victim "curled up into a ball."
A neighbor from the area agreed in describing the attitude of the accused after the accident. According to her testimony, the man left the scene "calmly, looking toward the vehicle as if there were someone there."
66 stab wounds after picking up the daughter
The defendant faces a request for 27 years in prison for the events that occurred on December 10, 2024. According to the public prosecution, the man had convinced Maria del Rosario to meet with him and go together to pick up the daughter they had in common at the preschool. Before leaving, he had asked the woman to leave her electronic monitoring bracelet at home.
After picking up the minor, while they were driving along the Can Pastilla road, the man had pulled out a knife he was carrying hidden in his clothes and had attacked the woman up to 66 times. The assaults affected various parts of her body and some wounds punctured her lungs and jugular vein.
Maria del Rosario died a few minutes later. With the woman's body still inside the vehicle and the daughter also inside, the defendant had accelerated suddenly, an act that caused several traffic accidents until the car ended up colliding from behind with another vehicle. The collision caused minor injuries to the minor. After the accident, the defendant fled the scene, but was arrested shortly after by agents of the Palma Local Police in a park in the area. The trial continues this week at the Provincial Court with witness testimony.
Maria del Rosario's family says that the man threatened her with death
Maria del Rosario's family recounted this Tuesday before the popular jury the climate of control and threats that, according to their account, the victim suffered during her relationship with the accused in the sexist crime of Can Pastilla. The woman's sister asserted that the man had her "completely neutralized" and that, after finding out she had finally reported him, he threatened the lives of his partner and those around her.
"I will kill you," the sister recalled the accused telling her over the phone, with Maria del Rosario present, shortly after she had filed a complaint against him that ended up resulting in a protection order. The sister explained that the man kept the victim subjugated and that there were periods when she didn't even see her. "Everything had to be when and how he said," she asserted. She also stated that the accused "was dedicated to committing crimes and stealing" and that Maria del Rosario even had to steal to be able to feed her daughters.
The sister, brother-in-law, and parents of the victim testified this Tuesday as witnesses in the jury trial being held at the Provincial Court of the Balearic Islands against the man accused of murdering Maria del Rosario with 66 stab wounds while they were both driving in a car along the path of Can Pastilla, in December 2024, in the presence of their minor daughter.
Maria del Rosario's sister testified visibly emotional and also explained how the situation has affected the couple's older daughter. As she recounted, the minor "asks every day to be able to be with her mother" and "does not want to know anything about her father." The brother-in-law explained that the girl refers to the defendant as a "demon" or "monster," while Maria del Rosario's mother and the minor's grandmother asserted that she speaks of him as "that being." She also explained that her granddaughter repeatedly asks her to be able to change her surname.
Regarding Maria del Rosario's romantic relationship with the accused, the brother-in-law asserted that the accused confessed to him that Maria del Rosario was engaging in prostitution for him and that on one occasion he even said to him: "Either she kills me or I kill her." The brother-in-law explained that he warned the victim to "be careful," but that she would reply to him that with the money she had him under control.
