They close the Palma Anti-Occupation Office due to the poor state of the facilities
CCOO has explained that the space has been definitively closed after having repeatedly reported the poor condition and deficiencies of the facilities
PalmCCOO stated this Monday that its complaints and actions before the Palma City Council and the Labor Inspectorate have led to the definitive closure of the Integral Office of Housing and Anti-occupation, located in Plaça de Santa Fe. As reported by the union in a statement, the process began after detecting several deficiencies in the working and safety conditions of the premises, which had been reopened “suddenly” at the end of May 2025, despite not meeting, according to CCOO, the adequate conditions to host municipal staff.
The office had been temporarily closed before, but after its reopening in June 2025, the City Council's Occupational Risk Prevention Service (SPRL) prepared an initial risk assessment and an action plan that detected "significant deficiencies". The union claims that months later the shortcomings persisted and that the corrective measures had not been applied. For this reason, at the end of December 2025, it submitted a second risk report, which led to a new Health and Safety report prepared by the SPRL at the beginning of January this year.
This second report, as CCOO explains, confirmed the absence of a maintenance contract to guarantee the periodic inspection of the facilities and the cleaning of the premises, a situation that, according to the union, prevented the urgent measures indicated by the prevention technicians from being implemented. CCOO transferred the case to the Health and Safety committee on January 30, 2026, and demanded a response from the City Council regarding the situation of workers assigned to a space with two unfavorable reports. In the absence of a response, the union filed a complaint with the Labor Inspectorate in February.
According to the union, during the Health and Safety committee on May 14, the City Council confirmed that it would not assign staff to this office again. Subsequently, on May 19, CCOO became aware of the response sent by the City Council to the labor authority in March, which indicated that the Integral Housing and Anti-occupation Office was already permanently closed. The union maintains that this outcome is the result of "continued monitoring, compilation of reports, and measures adopted" to guarantee the safety and health of municipal staff.
