PalmThe Institute of Ibizan Studies (IEE) has expressed its displeasure over the "repeated failure" by the Ibiza Council to comply with the Language Standardization Law, particularly in the official labeling of place names on the island's bus service lines.
In a statement, the IEE explained that on several lines—such as the one connecting Ibiza with Sant Antoni—the labeling of place names on vehicles does not respect the official Catalan toponymy, as established by current regulations.
The organization has noted that the law obliges institutions to use official place names as a fundamental measure for the defense, promotion, and dignification of the language of Ibiza.
The IEE has already reported these incidents to the relevant regional ministry and the Language Standardization Service, but so far, the incidents have not been resolved nor has "any response" been received.
For this reason, he has demanded that the Consell rectify this illegality by adapting the bus signage, and has reminded that the correct use of these place names is also "an act of respect for the identity and culture of the Island."
