PalmaThe Local Police of Sant Josep has dismantled an illegal settlement in a protected area of the Ses Salines Natural Park (Ibiza) and has issued a dozen fines with sanctions ranging from 10,000 to 30,000 euros.

As reported on their social networks, a dozen caravans and a tent were located at this site. In all of them, elements that posed a risk to safety and the natural environment were detected, such as kitchens, remains of bonfires, butane gas cylinders, batteries, electrical installations, and generators, among others.

Despite the short period of stay of the occupants, garbage and various waste had already accumulated in the area in a place of enormous environmental and landscape value, as warned by the Police.

In the operation, three caravans have been removed and another one is scheduled to be removed this Thursday. Subsequently, a cleaning crew will work in the area to return it to its usual state. "We are fully aware of the housing difficulties that affect many people. However, these circumstances cannot justify the occupation of protected natural spaces or the generation of risks to safety, the environment, and collective enjoyment," they indicated in a statement.

They recalled that the natural park is the heritage of all and a unique space for walking, playing sports, and enjoying nature that must be preserved by everyone. In this regard, the Local Police and the City Council are launching a special campaign that will run throughout the summer to detect, report, and prevent the presence of caravans outside of legally authorized campsites.
