They rent rooms in Manacor shanties with shared bathrooms and inhumane conditions.

PalmThe National Police have detected 11 substandard shanty towns in Manacor. They discovered that the owner of the land where these shacks were built charged large amounts of rent to the residents. National Police officers in Manacor conducted a joint inspection with the Housing Inspection Service of the Balearic Islands Government and the Ministry of Housing, Territory, and Mobility.

According to what officers discovered during their inspection of the area, none of the substandard homes met the necessary sanitary and basic utility requirements. Specifically, they detailed in a press release, these were shanty towns that also had shared bathrooms. The premises were in precarious conditions, both in terms of hygiene, due to the accumulation of garbage, organic waste, and unsanitary conditions; and in terms of safety, with deteriorated roofs and unstable structures. Furthermore, the electrical system was inadequate.

According to information gathered by the National Police and the Government, the 11 substandard housing units are owned by the same owner who exploits the residents' residential needs.

The Government has initiated proceedings for the subsequent opening of a sanctioning procedure. According to the Balearic Islands Housing Law, the creation of substandard housing units is classified as a very serious offense, punishable by fines ranging from €30,001 to €90,000. Each substandard housing unit created is sanctioned separately.
