They urge the Public Prosecutor's Office to investigate the Government for the lack of beds in hospital emergency rooms
The association believes that the omission of this service could constitute a crime of dereliction of duty.
PalmThe Patient Advocacy Association has requested that the Balearic Islands Prosecutor's Office investigate the regional government for the lack of beds in public hospital emergency departments. In a letter addressed to the deputy prosecutor, Adrián Salazar, the association argues that these actions could constitute a crime of dereliction of duty.
For the association, the Executive "cannot claim ignorance" of the situation in hospital emergency rooms, where patients cannot be admitted due to a lack of beds. Despite being aware of this, the association stressed, the Government, through its "inaction and irresponsibility," is putting patients who go to hospitals at risk. The Patient's Advocate has urged the Public Prosecutor's Office to launch an investigation to "determine responsibility." This Thursday, the Son Espases University Hospital decided to suspend all scheduled and non-urgent surgical procedures due to the new "collapse" that, according to the unions, is occurring in the emergency room. According to data from Ib-Salut (the Balearic Islands Health Service), there are at least 75 patients waiting to be admitted. Both USAE (the Union of Healthcare Workers of the Balearic Islands) and UGT (the General Union of Workers) have stated that some of them have been waiting for more than 80 hours.
