Restrictions on movement in Formentor begin this Friday and will last until October 18
During 2025, the DGT imposed 2,300 fines on vehicles that disregarded the restrictions
PalmThe restriction of vehicle access to Formentor begins this Friday, May 15th. This year the restriction has been brought forward by 15 days and will end on October 18th at the request of the Pollença City Council. The closure hours will be from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and access to Formentor will only be possible by public transport, on foot, or by bicycle.
During 2025, the DGT issued 2,300 fines to vehicles that disregarded the restrictions. This represents about 1,000 more infractions compared to 2024, but it should also be taken into account that the limitations were in effect for a longer period. The DGT, as the competent authority for traffic regulation, applies the sanctions, which range from 100 to 200 euros.
This year's change of dates is motivated by the decrease in activity in the second half of October. The council requested that these days be added in May, as the number of visitors is higher.
This was decided last December, during a meeting between the DGT, the Pollença City Council, the Government Delegation, and the Consell de Mallorca, among other institutions, where the details of the restrictions for this 2026 were agreed upon.
Until 2024, it was prohibited to drive on the Formentor road from June 1st to September 30th, and last year, 2025, the restriction was extended until the end of October.
It should be noted that there are two levels of restriction, where only authorized vehicles, public transport, emergency services, and bicycles can circulate. The first level starts at Port de Pollença and extends to Formentor beach. The second, from Formentor beach to the lighthouse.
The complete information and the specifications of the restrictions can be consulted on the page formentor.conselldemallorca.es.
