Three towns in Mallorca, among the favorites for Spanish families to spend their holidays
The family tourism model has undergone a change in the last five years
PalmThe Mallorcan municipalities of Santanyí, Alcúdia, and Felanitx are among the ten most popular destinations for Spanish families on Airbnb. According to data from the platform, Santanyí is the third most popular destination; Alcúdia, the fourth, and Felanitx, the eighth. The remaining destinations are, in this order: La Oliva, Toledo, Santa Pola, Níjar, Monachil, Denia, and Alcalá de Xivert.
Bookings by Spanish families through Airbnb have increased by almost 60% between 2019 and 2024, driven by stays in rural destinations, which increased by 177% over the same period. The boom is driven by the search for more affordable and adapted accommodation compared to the high costs of large cities.
A Verian survey shows that 71% of families cited the high cost of city stays as the main barrier. 61% expressed fear that their children would bother other tourists, and 56% perceived a lower tolerance toward children. Meanwhile, 45% cited the lack of accessible accommodation as the main change in their vacation accommodation model, and 38% cited the lack of children's activities.
