Six TIB buses were damaged by rock-throwing in Alcudia on the first day of the service strike.
The drivers' strike in the Balearic Islands has been "practically 100%," according to the SATI union.
PalmSix TIB buses were damaged by rock-throwing in Alcudia during the first day of the service strike. Government spokesperson Antoni Costa explained that, according to information from one of the concessionaire companies, some vehicle windows were broken by rocks early this morning in an incident between workers and drivers before starting the route, and they had to return to the depot. These buses, therefore, did not run and were unable to provide minimum services. Costa lamented the incident and called for "responsibility on all sides" to resolve the conflict.
Regarding the attendance of the first day of strikes in the Balearic Islands, the SATI union indicated that it was "practically 100%," which will leave some of the islands' intercity buses out of service. The established minimum service will be 60%.
Workers gathered this Friday morning at Palma's Intermodal Station to express their discontent over the failure to reach an agreement with the concessionaire companies to improve working conditions.
This Friday's strike is the first in a series of stoppages also called for next Monday, the 21st, and Wednesday, the 23rd, with the threat of an indefinite strike starting on the 25th if an agreement is not reached with the concessionaire companies. For his part, Costa expressed confidence that negotiations will resume to avoid the new strike days called for next week.
The head of the SATI union, Juan Rodríguez, has publicly denounced the "total blockage" of negotiations by the employers, with "unacceptable" proposals that show, in his opinion, that "they don't care at all" about the situation of the group.
