Restriction

Traffic restrictions in Formentor will be in place from May 15th to October 15th during 2026.

They explained that the earlier arrival is due to the fact that there is a much higher frequency of births in May than in the last two weeks of October.

PalmVehicle access restrictions to Formentor will begin on May 15th next year. This decision was reached on Wednesday by the Pollença Town Council and the Consell de Mallorca (Island Council of Mallorca) at a meeting where they agreed to extend the restriction until October 15th. Closing times will be set from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM. "This change is due to the decrease in activity during the second half of October. The Pollença council requested that these two weeks be added to May, as the number of visitors is higher then," sources from the Consell stated. Until last year, driving on the Formentor road was prohibited from June 1st to September 30th, and this year the restriction was extended until the end of October. As in previous years, access to Formentor will only be permitted by public transport, on foot, or by bicycle. This meeting consolidates two levels of restrictions, allowing only authorized vehicles, public transport, emergency services, and bicycles to circulate. The first level begins at the port of Pollença and extends to Formentor beach. The second level runs from Formentor beach to the lighthouse.

It has been reported that in 2025 the DGT (Spanish Directorate General of Traffic) issued 2,300 fines to vehicles that disregarded the restrictions. This represents approximately 1,000 more infractions compared to 2024, but it should also be noted that the restrictions were in place for a longer period. It should be remembered that the Consell de Mallorca (Island Council of Mallorca) is responsible for providing the area with information officers to communicate the restrictions to drivers, an initiative with a budget of €137,000 for 2026. The fines are issued by the DGT (Spanish Directorate General of Traffic), as the competent body for traffic regulation, and range from €0 to €2. The various administrations involved in the restriction that participated in the meeting, in addition to the Consell de Mallorca (CIM), are: the Government of the Balearic Islands, the Consorcio de Transportes de Mallorca (Mallorca Transport Consortium), the DGT, the Guardia Civil (Spanish Civil Guard), the Port Authority, and the Pollença Town Council. Also present were the CIM's Island Director of Mobility and Activities, Rafel Oliver; the CIM's Island Director of Infrastructure and Vehicle Inspection (ITV), Rafel Gelabert; and the Mayor of Pollença, Martí March. The provincial traffic chief of the DGT, Fernando Alonso, and the director general of Mobility for the GOIB, Lorena del Valle.
