So it was and it wasn't

What Pau Debon was like, according to his friend: "He has a touch of mystery and discretion that captivates; he's very magnetic."

The singer's friend, Miquel Sànchez, explains how small he was and the secrets of his childhood and adolescence.

PalmHe was a neighborhood kid from Palma's Rafal neighborhood who enjoyed skating, chasing butterflies, taking walks (na Furia), and playing volleyball. He was slightly lazy when it came to studies, but he loved everything related to nature and the environment. In fact, he ended up studying Geography at the UIB (University of the Basque Country), and hiking was one of his favorite things to do in his free time. His first music group was called DRU, named after a mountain in the Alps. All this is told to us by Miquel Sánchez, who was born and raised next door to Pau Debon, Antònia Font's singer.

"His mother gave me a bottle," says Miquel. An image that helps to reflect the close relationship the two children had. Almost always, the neighbor points out, it was Miquel who went to Cals Debon, where they spent time with Pere, Pau's brother and Antònia Font's drummer. "There was no PlayStation, so we played with our imaginations: we went to the Rafal stream, we had spinning tops and balls..." A childhood "like the ones before." He has a specific memory: at Cals Debon there was a book about making stars, so one season they decided to make this craft and try to make them fly.

As a child, Pau was "very happy and calm, very social." He was a good volleyball player and was a member of the Rafal club. Likewise, his friend says that "he was the typical child who did everything well." Regarding his character, he says he has what he exudes in concerts and interviews: "He knows how to listen. He's had this sweet laugh all his life and since he was young he's been a sensitive guy. We've always talked about relationships and intimacies without questioning whether this was being sensitive or not," describes Miquel, who emphasizes that front man "Physically, he's always been very handsome and has been a hit." His sweet nature is also a plus: "When you're with him, you want to be with him longer, because he has a touch of mystery and discretion that captivates you; he's very magnetic."

They played at having a band, and the game started to get serious, so to speak. They got a guitar and a drum kit and were going to rehearse "four things" in Esgleieta, on a vacant lot in Can Miquel. They had an electric generator and two large ones, one for the guitar and the other for the vocals, and a karaoke microphone. "It was all very punk, but with all the excitement in the world, we named the group DRU." Between covers of Todos los Santos, Nirvana, and La Polla Records, they built a space in an old chicken coop belonging to the owner of the galleys below their house, with four wooden planks and old mattresses. "We used to get electricity from Pau's room with a cable and a light bulb. The neighbors could hear us, but I think they found it funny that we were making that noise because no one said anything to us."

In 1995, they gave a concert in the Plaza del Rafal, which was recorded from the soundboard. And that cassette changed the life (as we would later see). "His brother, Pere, was starting a group with Joan Miquel Oliver and Jaume Manresa. They were looking for a singer, and Joanmi was struck by Pau's voice when he heard the concert on the cassette." And it was done: Joan Miquel Oliver was very clear that he wanted to form a festival group, and soon he began composing songs adapted to Debon's voice, Miquel recalls. "We had a great time with our friends, we went to see them play wherever they played, and I think Pau felt very comfortable from the start. Stranger things must happen to us, right, Pau?"u
