A woman with three children is evicted in Son Gotleu.
Last December, housing activists managed to stop the first eviction attempt before it was carried out.
PalmA woman and her three children were evicted this Friday from a home in Son Gotleu, according to the Palma Housing Union. The eviction, scheduled for 8:30 a.m., took place this morning at number 76 Calle Tomás Rullán, where several people gathered to try to stop it, but without success.
According to union sources, a police van arrived at 7:00 a.m. and officers positioned themselves at the door of the house, preventing the union members and residents who had gathered from entering.
Later, after the arrival of the judicial commission, the eviction was carried out. Last December, housing activists managed to stop the first eviction attempt before it was carried out. In the following months, the procedure was also halted twice for legal reasons.
According to the union, the court has not accepted the woman's vulnerable situation, something they have done in other cases, and social services have not provided any alternative. The eviction, they explained, is linked to the fact that a neighbor in the neighborhood "is dedicated to buying apartments to speculate through rentals." To avoid being considered a large landowner, they claimed, this man "divides the apartments with the rest of his family."
The mayor of Palma says he had no information about the eviction.
The mayor of Palma, Jaime Martínez, said he was unaware the eviction was scheduled for this morning and therefore asserted that he had no information. However, he assured that if social services are informed and aware of the eviction, "they will act, provide alternatives, and support the citizen who is going through this process."
