FLEM 2025 will include the participation of Siri Hustvedt, Rita Bullwinkel, Joana Marcús and Javier Cercas
The event will take place from October 2 to 5 in Magaluf
PalmThe 2025 Magaluf Expanded Literature Festival (FLEM) will be held from October 2 to 5, and throughout these dates will host personalities from the world of literature such as Siri Hustvedt, Rita Bullwinkel, Joana Marcús, Javier Cercas and Isaac Rosa, among others.
This is the fifth edition of this cultural event, promoted by the Rata Corner bookstore and INNSiDE by Melià and supported by Calvià City Council, the Institute of Balearic Studies, the Consell de Mallorca and the Ministry of Culture, as explained by the organizers in a statement.
The location will bring together around thirty writers, along with more than a dozen artists, musicians and cultural professionals. The fifth edition of FLEM stands out for the participation of the American writer Siri Hustvedt, winner of the 2019 Princess of Asturias Award for Literature and author of reference novels such as All that I loved and The dazzling world (Man Booker Prize finalist). Her work has been translated into more than 30 languages and has become an international cultural reference.
It is also worth highlighting the presence of another North American voice, Rita Bullwinkel, who published her first novel in 2024, which was a finalist for the 2025 Pulitzer Prize. In addition, it was considered one of the best of the year by the New York Times and The Guardian and will arrive in bookstores in a few days with the title Lightning stroke. The international panel is completed by Helen Fielding, author of Bridget Jones, and the Argentines Pedro Mairal and Dolores Reyes. It is worth noting that John Boyne, author ofThe boy in the striped pajamas, will ultimately not be present for reasons beyond the festival's control.
At the national level, Joana Marcús's participation stands out. The Mallorcan writer is a leading figure in young adult literature in Spanish and is the second best-selling author in Spain and Latin America. Also noteworthy is the attendance of Javier Cercas, whose latest book, God's fool at the end of the world, continues to be among the best-selling books and has earned numerous awards over the past year.
