PalmThe 2025 Magaluf Expanded Literature Festival (FLEM) will be held from October 2nd to 5th and will host literary figures such as Siri Hustvedt, Rita Bullwinkel, Juana Marcús, Javier Cercas and Isaac Rosa, among others.
This is the fifth edition of this cultural event, promoted by the Rata Corner bookstore and INNSiDE by Melià and supported by Calvià Town Hall, the Institute of Balearic Studies, the Consell de Mallorca and the Ministry of Culture, as explained by the organizers in a statement.
The location will bring together around thirty writers, along with more than a dozen artists, musicians and cultural professionals. The fifth edition of FLEM stands out for the participation of the American writer Siri Hustvedt, Princess of Asturias Award for Literature 2019, author of reference novels such as All that I loved and The dazzling world (Man Booker Prize finalist). Her work has been translated into more than 30 languages, making her an international cultural icon.
Also worth noting is another American voice, Rita Bullwinkel, who published her debut novel in 2024, which was a finalist for the 2025 Pulitzer Prize. It was also considered one of the best of the year by the New York Times and The Guard. Lightning stroke. The international panel is completed by Helen Fielding, author of Bridget Jones, and the Argentines Pedro Mairal and Dolores Reyes. It is worth noting that John Boyne, author of the The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, will ultimately not be present for reasons beyond the festival's control.
At the national level, the participation of Joana Marcús stands out. The Mallorcan writer is the great reference of young adult literature in Spanish and is the second best-selling author in Spain and Latin America. Also noteworthy is the participation of Javier Cercas, whose latest book God's Fool at the End of the World, remains among the best-selling books and has earned numerous awards over the past year.
Also joining this fifth edition are writers Isaac Rosa, Paula Bonet, Marta Jiménez Serrano, Sebastià Portell, Sandra Miró, Laura Gost, Alejandro Escrivá, Joan Llinàs, Rafael Tarradas, and María Agúndez, while poetry will also be on offer. Also present will be illustrators Ana Jarén and Check in Mela, musicians Carlos Sadness and Miguel Marcos, chef and MasterChef 10 winner María Lo, and communicators Mikel López Iturriaga and Lorena Macías.
All of this without forgetting the names already announced a few weeks ago, such as Megan Maxwell, Antònia Vicens, María Oruña, Eva Baltasar, Blanca Lacasa, Gloria de Castro, and illustrator Agustina Guerrero.
