Josep Maria Llompart returns to the streets of Palma and is looking for people to take selfies with.

PalmJosep Maria Llompart already has a statue in Palma, right on the spot where he was born, at the corner of Carrer dels Oms and Carrer de la Misión. However, this statue is not just a tribute; the Obra Cultural Balear (Balearic Cultural Association) is trying to bring it to life by encouraging people to take selfies.with the Mallorcan poet, writer, editor, and cultural activist to keep his legacy and memory alive and ensure it becomes part of the city's daily life.

The unveiling of this statue, which took place last Wednesday coinciding with the anniversary of the writer's death, brings to a close the year dedicated to Josep Maria Llompart, which began a year earlier, also on January 28, with a commemorative event at the Palma cemetery.

To ensure the tributes are not forgotten, and now that the Llompart Year has concluded, the Balearic Cultural Association (OCB) has launched this initiative, encouraging people to take photos with the Mallorcan writer. Through a post on their X profile, the OCB emphasizes that thanks to his statue (seated on a bench), "Oms Street now has a new place to stop, think, read... or simply sit for a while with one of the great figures of our culture." Therefore, they ask people to take a photo and share it using the hashtags #OCB.hashtags#SeuAmbLlompart #Llompart. "Josep Maria Llompart is already out on the street. Next, as always," they declared.

At the unveiling of the statue, a joint project between the Balearic Cultural Association, the Government, the Council of Mallorca, and the Palma City Council, it was explained that the work is a representation of Llompart's character: an "approachable and accessible" person. In fact, the Island Director of Culture, Andreu Ferrer, highlighted Josep Maria Llompart as "an essential figure for understanding the culture and civic consciousness of Mallorca." "With this sculpture, we not only remember his work, but also his commitment to our language, Mallorca, and its citizens. Placing it in his birthplace is a way of returning him to the city and making his legacy visible in the daily life of Palma," he emphasized.

For his part, the mayor of Palma, Jaime Martínez, described the Mallorcan writer as "a man deeply identified with the city and the island where he was born and absolutely committed to the goal of preserving the cultural symbols that constitute the heart and essence of this land."
