The Catalan Book Week ends with a sales success in Palma
The Guild of Booksellers of Mallorca qualifies the edition as a "success" and highlights the good reception of the works by island authors
PalmaThe 37th edition of the Catalan Book Week has closed with a positive balance in terms of public and sales. The Mallorca Booksellers Guild described the edition this Monday as a "success" in terms of public and sales compared to previous years and highlighted the large turnout at the scheduled events.
Among the most crowded activities of this edition were the opening speech by Carles Rebassa, the tribute to Biel Mesquida, and the presentations of the works by Joan Miquel Oliver and Laura Gost. Precisely, the books by these two authors are among the best-sellers during the Week. La vida no són matemàtiques, by Joan Miquel Oliver, and El preu de néixer, by Laura Gost, have been well received by readers.
The list of best-sellers also includes other works by authors from the Islands, such as Prometeu de mil maneres, by Carles Rebassa, and Sala Augusta, the latest collection of poems by Sebastià Alzamora, winner of the National Poetry Prize.
Narrative also had a presence among the best-selling titles, with De gran vull ser una casa, the new novel by the Manacor-born author Aina Fullana. Also added to the list are the essay Vestigis, by Lucia Pietrelli, and the children's story Les nits del ratolí, by Aina Estrades and Aura Moyà. The Week closed this Sunday with a tribute to Rafel Ginard organized by the Mallorca Literària Foundation.
A simultaneous recital with Barcelona in tribute to Blai Bonet
One of the novelties of this 37th edition has been the first collaboration with the 'Setmana del Llibre en Català' (Catalan Book Week) in Barcelona. Within this framework, on Sunday at noon, a simultaneous recital was held at both events in homage to the writer Blai Bonet.
The event was organized by the Institut d'Estudis Baleàrics and the Fundació Mallorca Literària and allowed for the connection of the two literary events. In this edition, the bookstores Quart Creixent, Llibreria Pròpia, Lila, Ínsula Literària, Drac Màgic, Ramon Llull, and Embat participated, in addition to the publisher Lleonard Muntaner.
