The OCB asks that 'La Balanguera' be incorporated into the Music curriculum

PalmaThe Obra Cultural Balear (OCB), the Association of Music Teachers of the Balearic Islands (ADMIB), and the Didactics of Musical Expression Area of the UIB have proposed to the Ministry of Education that La Balanguera, a poem by Joan Alcover set to music by Amadeu Vives, be explicitly incorporated into the Primary and Secondary Education Music curriculum.

The entities consider that, as the official anthem of Mallorca, the work is a fundamental piece of the island's cultural and musical heritage and should have a stable presence in the students' education. Its performance would allow for working on musical aspects while simultaneously linking music with literature and the heritage of the Balearic Islands.

The OCB also highlights the singing of 'La Balanguera' in which schools and institutes participated in May of this year, an experience that, according to the entity, demonstrated the interest that the piece arouses among students and educational centers.

The proposal aims to ensure that knowledge and performance of the anthem do not depend on the initiative of each center or teacher. In parallel, the entities have asked the Music departments to incorporate it into their syllabi.

The initiative is part of the events of the Alcover Year, coinciding with the centenary of the death of Joan Alcover and the musical premiere of La Balanguera.
