PalmFamilies in the Balearic Islands have given the educational psychologist service launched during the 2024-2025 academic year a 4.2 out of 5 rating. In 76.19% of the cases in which they have worked, an improvement has been seen. The main reasons for consultations have been anxiety, family problems, and relationship difficulties. In a statement, the Ministry of Education and Universities explained that the general health psychologists, coordinated by Convivèxit, have carried out intensive work during the past academic year. Thus, 5,851 individual interventions were carried out; 3,519 with students; and 814 with families. The average age of care was 14 years, with the highest incidence in the second year of compulsory secondary education.
Regarding coordination with external services, 358 cases have been referred to Primary Care, and 507 cases have been coordinated with mental health services. There have also been 1,148 referrals or coordinations with other services, "which demonstrates the importance of networking to ensure comprehensive care," according to Educació. At the group level, 1,486 interventions have been carried out, reaching 19,878 people, including students, families, and teachers.
During the 2024-2025 academic year, Convivèxit organized nine coordination and follow-up meetings with psychologists to support, train, and advise professionals. In parallel, five technical meetings were held with the Ministry of Health, specifically with the General Directorate of Mental Health and the Official College of Psychologists of the Balearic Islands (COPIB).
Anxiety and Self-Esteem Issues
Overall ratings reflect a high level of satisfaction with the educational psychologist and the support of Convivèxit. Furthermore, a survey with 12,026 responses from teachers, students, and families shows an average rating of 4.07 out of 5. The main concerns revolve around anxiety, stress, self-esteem, technology addiction, and bullying, reinforcing the need for structured psychological intervention.
"Given these data, the role of the general health psychologist is consolidated as an essential resource to guarantee the emotional well-being of students. The Ministry of Education and Universities is working to strengthen, stabilize, and expand this service, with the aim of responding to the real needs of the educational community," the Ministry emphasized. For the current academic year, the service has been expanded with three additional professionals, reaching 79 psychologists, 43 in public schools and 36 in subsidized schools.
