PalmThe families of CEIP Son Pisá have expressed their “deep concern” about the incorporation to the center of Miquel Roldán, the Mallorcan teacher judicially convicted of harassing a minor, a situation that, they assure, has generated “alarm and unease” within the educational community.

In a statement, parents emphasize that the safety, well-being, and protection of children “have to be the priority at all times” within any educational environment. Therefore, they demand clear and transparent information from the educational administration about the measures adopted and the existing guarantees to ensure a safe environment for the students.

The families ask the Ministry of Education to review the case and take the necessary measures to preserve the trust of the educational community. In this regard, they consider that the institutional response cannot be limited to the transfer of the teacher between centers, but must involve “a thorough review” and actions that offer “clear and safe responses”.

The statement also raises the need to open a broader reflection on current regulations and possible improvements, and expresses the willingness to continue working with the center's management and institutions to guarantee the well-being of children.

A case that reopens the debate

The incorporation into CEIP Son Pisà is part of the case of teacher Miquel Roldán, sentenced to one year in prison for harassment of a minor former student, a sentence that was confirmed by the Court of Palma.

Despite the conviction, the court did not order his disqualification from practicing teaching, considering that the facts were not directly linked to his professional activity, a fact that has allowed him to continue working in educational centers.

The events date back to 2020, when the teacher made contact with a former minor student with whom he had coincided years earlier, and initiated a conduct of harassment with insistent messages and proposals for meetings, to the point that the minor showed fear and a restraining order was established.

Previous protests and controversy

The case had already generated strong controversy at the beginning of the school year, when Roldán was assigned to CEIP Maria Antònia Salvà in Son Sardina. His presence triggered an unprecedented response from families, who for eleven days stopped bringing their children to class as a measure of protest.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Education had considered proposing a psychiatric evaluation to determine the teacher's suitability to work with minors, but this was never carried out and was eventually withdrawn, a fact that has increased criticism and the feeling of a lack of preventive measures.

The case has also reached Parliament, where the processing of a possible legislative change has been initiated to prevent individuals convicted of harassing minors from working in professions with regular contact with children unless expressly disqualified.

In this context, the incorporation into CEIP Son Pisà once again places the debate on legal limits and the protection of minors at the center of the educational and political agenda of the Islands.
