The UIB will train expert professionals in coeducation

PalmaStarting in November, the UIB will offer a new edition of the University Specialist in Coeducation, a 30-credit degree aimed primarily at education and socio-educational intervention professionals. The course, which reaches its sixth edition, has the collaboration of the Balearic Women's Institute (IB-Dona) and has a cost of 300 euros. The training will begin on November 23 and will run until May 7, 2027. It includes 155 in-person hours and will be held at the Sa Riera building, although the possibility of following the classes through synchronous virtual attendance will also be offered. Registration is open until November 12.

The program aims to provide professionals with knowledge and tools to incorporate the coeducational perspective into their practice. Among the competencies it proposes are identifying the learning processes of gender roles, designing educational practices free of stereotypes, developing academic and professional guidance not conditioned by gender, and developing coeducation plans in educational centers.

The curriculum includes six modules and addresses issues such as gender models and the transmission of inequalities in the family, the media, and social networks, as well as sexism in the educational field. The program also deals with the normalization of sexist violence among young people, equality policies, coeducational plans, and the role of coeducation and equality agents.

For teachers

The training is aimed at teachers of different levels of non-university education, professionals in socio-educational intervention – such as those working in juvenile centers, leisure education, and adult education – and university graduates who wish to dedicate themselves to teaching or socio-educational intervention. To access it, a university degree is required.

The course direction lies with UIB professors Francesca Salvà-Mut, professor at the Department of Applied Pedagogy and Educational Psychology, and Elena Quintana Murci, associate professor in the same department. Coordination is in charge of Arturo García de Olalla, assistant doctor professor. The program also has teaching staff from the university and entities specialized in co-education.

The UIB frames this training within Law 11/2016, on equality between women and men, which establishes co-educational measures in educational centers and provides for teacher training in this matter. In addition to the specific degree for people with university studies, the UIB also offers a Certificate of Permanent Training in Co-education, of 30 ECTS, intended for people who do not have a regulated university degree.
